Smart digital solutions for multimodal, accessible, resilient, user-centric urban infrastructure
Innovative digital tools and solutions have the potential to significantly upgrade transport infrastructure, enhancing performance, safety, and inclusiveness while reducing emissions. Digital solutions are crucial for minimizing traffic disruptions, boosting transport efficiency, and decreasing reliance on fossil fuels.
The SMARTIN project aims to revolutionize the management of transport infrastructure through advanced digitalization and intelligent, data-driven solutions. SMARTIN is developing a connectivity platform where transport infrastructure assets are digitalized, and mobility optimization services operate harmoniously.
Advanced AI-driven analytics are being developed to fuse infrastructure monitoring data at different geospatial resolutions, enabling proactive incident detection and supporting infrastructure providers and users in operations and maintenance management. These innovations are integrated into the overarching operational architecture of the SMARTIN digital infrastructure.
The SMARTIN platform architecture will revolutionize infrastructure governance by improving the operation and management of urban transport infrastructure and redesigning transport and mobility activities for all stakeholders. SMARTIN's innovations will be demonstrated across four representative European cities, showcasing their potential to enhance infrastructure accessibility and resilience, promote multimodality, and accelerate the adoption of digital solutions.
Our Role
At Frontier Innovations, we play key part in the development of a set of integrated mobility and infrastructure management services. Our work primarily focuses on designing systems that are able to monitor performance in real-time and assess operational efficiency all whilst supporting better decision-making on both operator and city level.
Our work is to define the technical requirements for these tools in a participatory manner along with the city authorities and key actors, ensuring that real-world user needs are reflected in the project’s digital innovations.
In addition, our team leads the design of the project's impact assessment methodology, helping evaluate the environmental, social, and economic benefits of SMARTIN’s innovations. We also support the cross-pilot evaluation activities to ensure that solutions are scalable, harmonized, and ready for replication across Europe.
