About the job:
This post will focus on the implementation of research and innovation as part of Horizon Europe and commercial projects. The work will involve research and development activities in areas pertinent to the scope of the company’s activities, including software development in python or similar languages, data analysis, data lifecycle management technologies, system integration, data governance and data spaces. In this role, you will not only develop and maintain data-intensive applications, but also actively participate in shaping innovative platforms with a Europe-wide impact. Your contributions will be crucial in driving innovative projects from conception to completion, in collaboration with leading organisations all over Europe.
The postholder will have a successful track record in research related to engineering and computing systems and will be recognised for their potential to attract further grants from national and international bodies. As someone with proven experience in research, you will have the opportunity to expand and develop your research, through originating, leading, and authoring project deliverables and supervising junior team members. You will also lead and support applications for external funding when appropriate. A willingness to travel to support the delivery of the project and the development or research opportunities will be essential.
Key Responsibilities:
To undertake/lead research and development for the areas referred to the scope of the project above.
To support/lead the preparation of the project’s technical developments, reports and deliverables.
To support/lead the production of research outputs and their dissemination in internationally respected publications / conferences / fora / venues, developing a proven track record for high quality R&D outputs.
To support/lead the development of research bids and proposals for securing funding from a variety of sources, such as Horizon Europe.
To support/mentor research staff within the team to achieve their agreed outputs.
To lead the design development, and implementation of: i)software solutions that are focused on the backend (e.g. Python, workflow engines); ii) data models and relational and non-relational databases.
Propose and shape architecture and system design, ensuring scalability and efficiency.
Produce high-quality, well-organized code, adhering to best practices.
Collaborate with cross-functional, cross-organisational teams to define new features.
Participate actively in research and innovation
Occasional travelling to EU destinations (less than 4 times per year)
Your Profile:
At least 7 years of professional experience in solution development or equivalent roles, of which at least 3 years of experience in EU-funded projects (H2020, Horizon Europe, etc.)
Masters or Engineering degree in relevant subjects (e.g. information technology, computer engineering, other)
Fluency in English, spoken and written
Excellent interpersonal skills as well as verbal and written communication skills
Self-driven, autonomous and independent in task accomplishment
Strong team spirit and eager to contribute to common objectives
Ability to analyse business needs and transform them into technical requirements
Ability to deeply understand and communicate complex ideas.
Experience working with collaborative tools (Git, Jira, CI/CD, ...)
A PhD degree in computer science will be considered a plus
